Description

In May, the weather was not our friend. To maximize every second of clear sky, the DeepLab Team worked with three observatories on the same subject!
This photo is the joint work of the veteran LAB 1, LAB2 and the newly built LAB 5.

The Owl Nebula is a planetary nebula in the constellation Ursa Major.
M97 is one of the largest planetary nebulae known, spanning nearly 3 light-years in diameter and its apparent magnitude is 9.9. The central star, on the other hand, is an extremely hot white dwarf, whose surface temperature is around 85,000 kelvins and its mass would be equal to 0.7 solar masses. The distance to the object is 2600 light years. The total mass of the nebula is 0.15 solar masses and its density is extremely low, about a tenth of the average of other planetaries. This would indicate the high age of the nebula, given that over time it has expanded considerably and its gases have become rarefied. The age would therefore be about 6000 years.
